An ever-evolving story: how community anchor organisations are making a difference

The Community Alliance (a partnership of bassac, Community Matters and Development Trusts Association) supports community anchors as vehicles of social transformation. Our vision is a community anchor in every neighbourhood and we have launched a book entitled “An ever-evolving story: how community anchor organisations are making a difference” featuring inspiring case studies across the country of their impact on people’s lives.

This book follows on increased government recognition by the Cabinet Office and Communities and Local Government that investment and support for sustainable community anchors is important in building stronger and more active communities. Further, the case studies featured in “An ever-evolving story” show the breadth and diversity of community anchors while clearly demonstrating their benefits including:

• Strengthening communities and operating as a platform for community activity
• Being a voice for local people
• Contributing to wealth creation in the area
• The importance of having a building as an asset for income generation, achieving sustainability for the organisation and a place for people to go
